Box 17177
Chapel Hill, NC 27516
Re: Orange County Zoning Ordinance Surface Water Identification
PIN 9871 -60 -7301, TMBL 7.19..24C
Jordan Lake Unprotected Watershed
Dear Mr. Wilson:
This letter serves as confirmation of an on -site stream determination made by Orange
County Erosion Control Division staff on August 26, 2009 for the referenced property.
Orange County enforces a stream buffer along streams and water features in the
County per the Orange County Zoning Ordinance (see Section 6.24.1 Additional
Requirements for Lots Outside of Watershed Protection Areas, as amended on May 20,
2003).
Based on our initial review of the Geographic Information System (GIS) data, the parcel
did not contain previously mapped streams or water features. The topographic data did
indicate one drainage feature in the northeast half of the property. This drainage feature
was evaluated in the field to determine if it met the criteria to be considered a stream
and thus subject to the buffer rules. The evaluation was conducted pursuant to the
North Carolina Division of Water Quality's Identification Methods for the Origins of
Intermittent and Perennial Streams (Version 3.1, February 28, 2005). Additionally, staff
walked the remaining portion of the tract to determine if other areas met the criteria to
be classified as a stream or water feature.
