The subject project involves.the construction of a Rolid waste transfer station that includes a warehouse building and a scale house on a INacre parcel off of Milt iou.4e Rd, just north of the . Eubanks Road intersection. The project is adjacent to the grange County rubanks landfill whose construction and dernolitinn sector is locat alongside the project's southern peruneter. A well and septic system will be inst died to serve this facility. Initially, four hazardmrs waste sites were identified to be iuithin a four -mite radius of the project. These sites are described below and are denoted can the attached map. The Orange County Regional Landfill Site (NCD 1986 171 106), located adjacent to the southern border of this project parcel is in the process of remediation under the supervision of the NC Solid Waste Section. Oroundwaterrt assessment and remediation activities at the Regional Landfill are focused on releases of organic compounds detected northeast and dowhgradierit from the closed unlined landf ll, whicb is located in the northern part of the facility, north of Eubanks Road. The construction and demolition sector has two monitoring wells near the project's southern border. Analytical results failed to detect any constituents in these two wells throughout the years of monitoring. However, a well further south in this landfill revealed el ateri, but sub -2L, levels of volatile organic solvents. The proposed project is toa ate d�ydruulically cross - gradient to the groundwater flow at the Landfill Site Although construction of the proposed transfer station does not.require a permit room the Solid Waste Section of the Division of Waste M�t gemem, Solid waste Management regulations require that landfills cannot be ideated closer than 500 feet to groundwater supply wells.
