11/16/2009 81:57 9197153860 NCDENR PAGE 03/14
Page 2
22 October 2009
EA Tranelar Station
Project No. 10.01x4
We offer the following recommendations to minimize impacts to aquatic and terrestrial wildlife
resources.
1. New developments meeding 10% imperviousness should include stormwater controls designed
to replicato and maintain the hydrographic cendition at the site prior tq the change in landscape.
2. Uso landscaping that consists of non- invasive native species and Low Impact Development (LID)
technology. Using native species instead of ornamentala should provide bctitftts by reducing the
Hoed for water, fertilisers, and pesticides. Using LID technology in landscaping will not only
help maintain the predeveiopment hydrologic regime, but also enhance the aesthetic and habitat
value of the site.
3. Sediti1ent and erosion controls measures should be installed prior to any laud clearing or
construction_ These measures should be routinely inspected and properly maintained. Excessive
silt and sediment loads can have numerous detrimental effects on aquatic resm. ces WhIding
destruction of spawning habitat, sufft=don of eggs, and clogging of gills of aquatic species.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this project. If we can be of further avdatance,
please contact our office at (336) 444 -7625.
