<br />1. Types of clinics, Schedules & Location
<br />'Two clinic days with extended hours from S:DD - 5:30 are held
<br />each week, one day at the Hillsborough office and ane at the Chapel
<br />Hill office. Any type of F'. P. patient can be seen at any time
<br />during the clinic day with the exception of new enrollees who are
<br />scheduled to came for a special orientation and educational. session.
<br />Special Teen Clinics were held during October, lg7$ through -' .
<br />January 1979 during late afternoon hours (from 3 P.M. -.5 P.M-)-. ,. _
<br />.. Despite publicity and encouragement to attend these special•elinics -
<br />our teenage clients prefer to attend the regular clinic during mid-- -
<br />morning hours: After this experience, the admini'stratiori decided
<br />to ca*nbine the teen and regular clinic and to extend the clinic -
<br />'hours. In this fashion, we hope not 'only to provide teens with a ''
<br />unique, meaningful educational session, but also to provide working
<br />women better access to our clinics by longer operational hours.
<br />The services offered during the F.P_ clinics include 1) concep--
<br />tive education, 2) laboratory studies (e.g. hematocrit, urinalysis
<br />for blood, PH, protein, glucose, and microscopic examination, sero-
<br />logy testing for syphillis & rubella,.pap smear,•culture screening _
<br />for N. gonorrhea, PPD skin test screening for TB or chest x-ray as
<br />indicated, height, weight, blood pressure, sickle cell testing as -
<br />indicated, blood glucose, pregnancy testing if applicable, 3) med--
<br />ical exam by physician to include at a minimum chest (heart and
<br />lurk) thyroid, extremities, breast, abdomen, pelvic (visualization
<br />of cervix, bimanual & recto-vaginal exam) e~rams and other exams as
<br />indicated, ~4) the review of the medical history including gynecolo-
<br />gical, obstetrical, cardiovascular, metabolic, neoplastic, neurolo-
<br />gical and hemopoietic elements, 5) treatment of suspected and proven
<br />venereal disease, other vaginal. infections and uncomplicat~ urinary
<br />tract infections, 6) counselir~ for infertility problems with refer-
<br />rals to patients' choice of source of care, 7) counseling for problem
<br />pregnancy with appropriate referral, 8) referral and counseling for
<br />sterilization procedures, male and female, 9) referral and counseling
<br />for pre-natal care, 10) immunization for rubella, polio, diptheri.a
<br />and tetnus as indicated, 11) referral for medical emergencies~•:and
<br />12) supply of the desired contraceptive. If any test result is ab-
<br />nor;na.l and the patient needs flarther medical evaluation, the F.P.
<br />lead nurse informs the patient by phone call, letter or personal
<br />visit and the patient is given the option of choosing a referral
<br />to an appropriate private physician, returning to us for pertain '
<br />further evaluations or referral to a speciality clinic at a medical
<br />center.
<br />Services are available to anyone with no financial or referral
<br />requirements and without regard to race, color, national origin, -
<br />religion, creed, age, sex, marital status, or parental consent far
<br />these age 12 and over. It is our intention to protect the dignity
<br />of the individual and ensure the privacy and confidentiaLi.ty of
<br />the encounter, to the extent adequate space is provided. Orange
<br />County is presently acting to create adequate space for the Health
<br />Department. The participants are not subjected to coercion to re-
<br />ceive services or to employ any particular method of family planning.
