34 Intergovernmental communication and coordination is accomplished by the <br /> H2Orange Committee, convened by ERCD with regular meetings to enhance <br /> communication and interaction with other departments on various water issues. This <br /> committee maintains regular contact with other water providers and water resources <br /> stakeholders through the many and varied regional water associations. <br /> Objective WR-14: <br /> Use the new Water Supply Study (WRA 1) and the State's Neuse River Basin model <br /> (2009-10) to evaluate the Upper Eno Watershed and its optimal protection <br /> measures. <br /> Status/Action: No Action <br /> Objective WR-15: <br /> Conduct cooperative research on ground and surface water quality, working with <br /> other partners in the County and adjoining jurisdictions to address water quality <br /> problems such as radon. (See also Air and Energy Objective AE-5.) <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> ERCD staff is continuing to develop the new Orange WellNet, the groundwater <br /> observation well network. In addition, partnerships are being explored and <br /> informational brochures regarding radon and arsenic in groundwater has been <br /> drafted and is being evaluated for future public information efforts.. <br /> Objective WR-16: <br /> Conduct additional research on well yields and wellhead protection to determine if <br /> more reliable information on well yields and wellhead protection areas can be <br /> discerned with available technology. <br /> Status/Action: Initiated <br /> Staff has begin discussing what would be involved in such as assessment, and is in <br /> the early stages of exploring technology and feasible actions. <br /> Objective WRA 7: <br /> Reduce the number of 303(d) impaired streams by minimizing impacts of non-point <br /> and point source pollution. <br /> Status/Action: No Action <br /> Objective WR-18: <br /> Continue hydrogeologic characterization of the ground water system (including <br /> quantifying recharge areas), with emphasis on fractures in the crystalline rocks. <br /> Status/Action: No Action <br /> Objective WR-19: <br /> Develop water efficiency standards for new development in order to decrease per <br /> capita water use. <br /> Status/Action: No Action <br /> Objective WR-20: <br /> Promote Best Management Practices for new developments which minimize <br /> stormwater runoff. (See also Land Use Objective LU-2.3 and Erosion Control Objective EC-1.) <br /> 32 <br />
