Objective WR-8: 33 <br /> Ensure that sufficient water resources are available for farms. <br /> Status/Action: Initiated <br /> To be discussed with Agricultural Preservation Board at an upcoming meeting. <br /> Objective WR-9: <br /> Encourage and participate in efforts by the state and other regional jurisdictions to <br /> address the future use of Jordan Lake as a water supply, in a manner that links <br /> sustainable growth to future water allocation. <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> Staff was very involved in the stakeholder and nutrient management rules efforts, <br /> and continues participating in Jordan Lake Partnership meetings and activities. <br /> Meeting of Chair and Mayors recently held to discuss linkage of growth and water <br /> allocation, to be discussed further through TJCOG and the Orange-Chatham Task <br /> Force. <br /> Objective WRA 0: <br /> Establish a county network of ground and surface monitoring wells to assist in water <br /> resources planning and drought monitoring. <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> ERCD staff is continuing to work on developing Orange WellNet, the newly- <br /> approved groundwater observation well network. Recent activities are focused on <br /> the use of existing bedrock wells located in the 8 different types of bedrock geology <br /> which are present in the county. <br /> Obiective WRA 1: <br /> Provide incentives and educational information to landowners to increase protection <br /> of watersheds and ground water supplies and their inter-relationships. <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> ERCD staff has been named a Groundwater Guardian community for 2009, for the <br /> seventh consecutive year. Educational activities have occurred and are ongoing <br /> through community events and street fairs, as well as the Dealing with the Drought <br /> educational forum series. Drought information is posted to the ERCD web site and in <br /> the lobby of the Agricultural Center. <br /> Obiective WRA 2: <br /> Prepare a new Orange County Water Supply Study, and make updated supply and <br /> demand projections that can be used to inform future decision-making. <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> ERCD staff has worked with staff from the Planning Department to develop water <br /> demand projections in support of Jordan Lake Partnership activities, including the <br /> Regional Water Supply Plan and possible future Jordan Lake allocation request. <br /> Obiective WRA 3: <br /> Create a mechanism for intergovernmental coordination of water resources, <br /> calculating a comprehensive County "water budget" approach. <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> 31 <br />
