Public seminar to be held in 2010 on promoting sustainable <br /> forest management. <br /> Obiective NA-9: <br /> Encourage long-term productivity of farms and timber lands through best land-use <br /> management practices and conservation agreements. (See also Parks and Recreation <br /> Objective PR-1.1.) <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> The Orange Soil & Water Conservation office and County Forester continue to <br /> actively promote and encourage agricultural and forestry BMPs using technical <br /> assistance and financial assistance through federal and state cost-share programs. <br /> Lands Legacy conservation agreements address the use of best management and <br /> forest stewardship on these lands. <br /> Obiective NA-10: <br /> Require that all major subdivisions (defined as having more than 5 lots according to <br /> the Orange County Subdivision Regulations) include within their boundaries open <br /> space suitable for low-impact recreation and wildlife habitat. (See also Land Use <br /> Objective LU-4.3 and Parks and Recreation Objectives PR-1.3 and PR-4.1.) <br /> Status/Action: Ongoing <br /> The subdivision ordinance requires that most major subdivisions set aside a <br /> minimum of 33% open space for low-impact recreation and wildlife habitat. <br /> Obiective NA-11: <br /> Develop a comprehensive conservation plan for achieving a network of protected <br /> open space throughout Orange County, which addresses 1) threats to important <br /> natural areas; 2) connectivity between protected areas; 3) coordination with <br /> neighboring counties; and 4) sustainable management of critical natural resources. <br /> (See also Parks and Recreation Objective PR-5.4.) <br /> Status/Action: No Action <br /> Obiective NA-12: <br /> Establish a system of nature preserves that protect large areas of undeveloped land <br /> (including significant natural areas) surrounded by low-density development and <br /> working farms and managed forests. (See also Parks and Recreation Objective PR-5.4.) <br /> Status/Action: Initiated <br /> ERCD is working on a proposed Seven Mile Creek Preserve master plan that <br /> includes consideration, with Planning and Inspections, of an Upper Eno Nature <br /> Preserve concept (or Conservation District) for future BOCC consideration. <br /> Objective NA-13: <br /> Promote clustering of residential development and dedication of large areas of <br /> undisturbed land for low-impact recreational use by residents and for wildlife habitat. <br /> 28 <br />
