Project Descri Lion <br />The Back Greek Reservoir Watershed Critical Area Treatment project will <br />encourage both local small farmers and urban citizens to carry out an effective <br />conservation and environmental program that will benefit everyone. Improvement <br />-of water quality, as well as protecting land resource base are the principal <br />objectives of this project. <br />Presently in this watershed, is the Quaker Creek Reservoir which is used <br />as a municipal water supply. A severe sedimentation problem exists in this <br />---.-- reservair.today..._.This reservoir_wi11 soon be enlarged,.and if the problem is _. - <br />-.`• severe now, we are sure that the problem will become greater unless we stabilize -. <br />sediment producing areas. <br />If these proposed measures are carried out, not only will farm productivity <br />be increased, but the economic and environmental conditions for everyone wil l <br />be improved. This can only be accomplished. through a joint cooperative effort <br />of all. <br />-.- - .- In._1978}.:the_US_Department .of Agriculture approved funding for the North <br />Central Piedmont Resource Conservation and Development Project in the Back <br />Creek Watershed. This RC&D Project is a-joint venture of both Alamance and <br />Orange Gounties. Back Creek Watershed consists of 42,496 acres. Forty percent, <br />or 17,000 + acres, is in Orange County and 60 percent, or 25,000 + acres, in <br />Alamance County. - <br />Alamance County received approval fora special ACP demonstration project <br />in 1978.
