Once the Baard selects a general contractor, it <br />-vould probably take three to four weeks to seek subcontractor's bids. <br />The Finance Director said available net debt reduction bonds.wi1l total <br />$Z15,OO0 on July 1, 1979 and, if we do not exercise the first option, will total <br />$3'5,000 on July 1, 1980. He suggested the Board allow far other commitments, <br />such as schools, which would come up during the year. <br />The County Manager said there was a possibility of renovating the <br />attics of the Social Services 3uilding (approximately 7,700 square feet) and <br />the Health Buildin3 (approximately 2,007 square feet) or makinn additions to <br />either buildin7. He said the Council on Aging can get a•grant ofi $57,00`) if <br />the Board decides to renovate rrady Brown. <br />Commissioner !Jhitted asked Brady Brown Renovation be placed on the agenda <br />for the third Tuesday meeting. <br />Agenda Item 13: Refuse Collection S stem <br />The County Manager said, with the landfill closed over the Christmas <br />holidays, the green box system was over taxed. He said a dinosaur system <br />would use larger containers owned by the county and would be located at the Chapel Hili <br />landfill and other sites developed or landscaped for that purpose. He said <br />the green box system was not designed to tarry surburban areas like Hillsborough <br />or Carrboro. He. .said the dinosaur program has worked well in Wilson County. <br />He said dinosaur boxes contain 1400 yards, while green boxes contain 3 to 4 <br />yards. Contractors charge $25 per load at the landfill and $45 per load to <br />collect at other sites. To empty boxes once a day would cost approximately <br />$15,000 per .year. <br />-9- .. <br />
