Subdividers should also identify subdivisions an secondary roads in <br />addition to subdivision roads. Commissioner Willhoit said the primary duty of the <br />task force would be to present the Board with a report of these goals and their <br />recommendations so the Board could decide how to proceed with this project. <br />Gorr~issianer Walker wanted the task force to have clear directions so the road <br />naming process could be expedited. He asked whether the county had a listinn of <br />road names. <br />The Planning Director said the Highway Department has a printed list of road <br />numbers and corresponding names-but-it..was.not:-a comolete.list for.al].~oads_in the ...--. <br />county. - . -..._...... _ . .... ~_- _..... .:. .. _~. . <br />Commissioner Gustaveson pointed out that a lot of work has been done on this - <br />project already and the next step would involve a lot of planning staff time. .He <br />requested discussion of this item later in the meeting when nrioriti.es would be <br />discussed. <br />Co~r~nissioner Whitted said this project could not be implemented in one year <br />and a task force could coordinate where the greatest needs are, determine in what <br />sequence to proceed and decide what the road names should be. He said it is not <br />feasible to assign these tasks to the Planning Department at this time. He felt <br />a coordinating body was needed. <br />Commissioner Walker said he is in favor of the road naming project and he <br />does not evant to see the project delayed by a task force. He suggested assiclninn <br />the project to the Planning Board and Advisory Councils. <br />Commissioner Willhoit withdrew his motion. Commissioner Whitted said this <br />item will be considered at the afternoon work priar•ity session. <br />Agenda Item 4: Traffic Control Problems <br />Dr. Robert Hanes, Superintendent of Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools, and Pir. Bob <br />Munson, Principal of Chapel Hill Senior High School, reported to the Board a traffic <br />problem that has occurred on the road that runs i~ front of SeawellElementary an <br />which connects Homestead Road with Estes Drive Extension ,(Seawell Rd.). Dr. Hanes <br />said the road is heavily traveled by school buses, parents of students and f <br />high school students with their own cars. He explained to the Board several problem_ ~I <br />connected with the road: 1) The road was re-surfaced in late summer and there has <br />been some difficulty in stabilizing the shoulders. He .said he had contacted <br />the District Engineer from the Department of Transportation and had been promised <br />DOT would continue to look at the shoulders. 2) Dr. Hanes said he had contacted <br />Mr. Watkins, Division Highway Engineer in Greensboro,requesting he review speed <br />limit markings and see what is necessary to establish a school zone marking in front <br />- _ _~_ <br />
