q r~'A cH MEAT' / - d <br />.~~ <br />~~~ti~~ <br />HILL- <br />ORO <br />C <br /> <br />H~t~~~ <br />TC: Valerie Foushee, Chair <br />Grange County Board of Commissioners <br />FRCN~: Lisa Stuckey, Chair <br />Board of Education <br />Imo: Status of Elementary Eleven <br />DATE: September 14, 2009 <br />~n June 2008 the grange Co~unnty Board of Camamissioners appropriated $9'~4,DU0 in <br />fu~a.ding for the arc~.tectural design and ~.e approval process for Elerraentary School #1 . <br />This has allowed the p~aject design and the Town of Chapel ~.i.ll approval process to <br />continue despite the uncertainty concerning full project fun~,ing. <br />fur architects and design advisory conun~ttee have been worka.ng s~.ce last year to <br />develop design and construction drawings far the new school. Concurrently, we have <br />been seeking the necessary permits frorn, the Town of Chapel dill. Presentations to the <br />Town's advisory boards have been made and th.e Special Use Pest SUP} application <br />rocess with the Town of Chapel Hill is near cornple~ion. A public hearing is being held <br />p <br />on September ~ 1, X009 and: we are hopeful for approval at a Town Council n~eet.ng soon <br />thereafter. Qnce approved, the SUP wild be valid for a period of 5 years.. <br />Current SAPFC~ projections indicate ~.at the new school should be opened in the .fall of <br />201 D. Wzth the current .delay in funding, construction would not be able to begin until <br />that date at the earliest. if it staved nett fall, it is estimated that the project completion <br />would be in August 2012, two years past the SAPFQ projection date. By that rime it is <br />ro'ected that our elementary schools will be 459 students aver capacity and the Level of <br />pJ <br />Service will be X08.5%. The tuning of the school's corupletion affects decisions w~ need <br />~o snake with res ect to district level. programs, students' school assignn~.en~s, and plans <br />p <br />far rnal~ing arrangements for classes for which we have no classrooms. In addition, ire <br />ma soon reach the point ghat we naus~ deny Certificate of Adequate.
