The plan will
include details as to how and where such a proposed facility would be established as well as how
it would be sustained long term.
Our steering committee agreed that we have a sense of the parameters required for such an
endeavor and we need to proceed towazds hiring a contracted project coordinator to be
responsible for Devaluating available sites for the Heritage Center/Museum; 2) figuring out what
types of equipmenbspecial azeas might be needed to prepaze, store, and make available materials
in an azchival appropriate environment; 3) figuring out what the staffing needs would be for the
type of services identified by the work group; and 4) identifying possible funding sources.
Our committee estimates that the archivist's time and report will cost an estimated $4,850.00.
At its September 16 business meeting, the board of directors of the Chapel Hill/Orange County
Visitors Bureau approved the expenditure of approximately $5,000 for funds to hire a
business/mazket professional to conduct an independent assessment of what we have to work with
locally; and how that compares to other communities that have carved out aself-sustaining,
tourism/ archives-focused Heritage style free-standing agency (Johnston County is an example).
This person will work for the Visitors Bureau and have access to its office and equipment if
necessary.
The next step is developing an RFP and finding the right person to fulfill this work.
Thank you for your leadership on this project and I am happy to be able to contribute solid
reseazch that will help us position this Heritage Center in a manner that meets the findings of the
needs assessment that will be conducted by this consultant.
Let me know how we can help moving forwazd.
Supporting tourism in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough North Carolina
