~. <br />F~ ~~~/r <br />i ~~ <br />' ~: <br />~i <br />= = MINUTES <br />'~ ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />• ~ AUGUST 28, 1978 <br />x <br />t <br />:; <br />,~ <br />f <br />s <br />f <br />i <br />x <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in joint session with <br />the Orange County Planning Board at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the <br />Cultural Arts Building at the Chapel Hill High School on August 28, 1978. <br />Commissioners present: Commissioner Richard Whitted, Chairman, and <br />Commissioners Jan Pinney, Don Willhoit, Norman Walker and Norman Gustaveson. <br />Chairman Whitted called the meeting to order and then turned the <br />meeting aver to pr. Boner, Chairman of the Orange County Planning Board, <br />to conduct a public hearing.to receive petitions for rezoning and to <br />s hear other matters regarding land use planning issues. <br />Agenda Item 1: Clarence Gates Petition to Rezone <br />The Planning Director explained Mr. Gates has requested to rezone 3.2 <br />acres near Lawrence Road, Eno Township, Tax Map 20, part of lot 16, from <br />residential to general industrial. <br />Mr. Clarence Gates spoke on his behalf and a Mr. Clark stated he had <br />no objection to Mr. Gates' proposal. <br />Mr. Gordon Warren spoke in opposition to spot zoning and expressed <br />his concern that rezoning this 3.2 acres to general industrial would have <br />a negative impact on his property values. Ms. Elizabeth Rogers and Mr. Glenn <br />Bunting also spoke in opposition to Mr. Gates' request. <br />Agenda Item 2: Cedar Hills Subdivision Petition to Rezone <br />The Planning uirector explained this request was to rezone approximately <br />x.39 acres along State Road 1733 (Weaver Dairy Road) in Chapel Hill Township, <br />Tax Map 25B, Block A, Lot 1, Block B, Lot 1 & 6 and Block C, Lot 1 from <br />residential to general commercial. <br />A representative of O'Brien/Atkins Associates and a representative of <br />Cedar Hills Developers spoke on behalf of this request. <br />A gentleman spoke on behalf of residents of this area in apposition to <br />the petition to rezone. A representative of Country Side Subdivision spoke <br />in apposition to the petition to rezone. A Ms. Linda Chris spoke in <br />i opposition to the petition to rezone. <br />Ms. Peg Parker, Chairperson, Chapel Hill Planning Board, said the <br />Planning Board recommended denial of this rezoning request because <br />this rezoning would not conform to Chapel Hill's land use plan. <br />
