• Work First -$5,000 to offset program costs. <br />Work First Demonstration Grant - $324,955 to assist with providing employment <br />options to Work First clients. On January 23, 2007, Commissioners approved four <br />time-limited permanent Social Worker positions for this program contingent upon <br />receiving State funds to offset costs of the positions. A major component of this grant <br />provides State funding to offset costs of three of those positions. The department has <br />not secured funding for the fourth position approved by the Board on January 23, <br />2007 and has therefore not filled the position at this time. This budget amendment <br />brings the total grant funds for this program to $595,955 for fiscal year 2007-08. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these donated funds for the above stated <br />purposes. (See Attachment 1, column #2) <br />3. The Department of Social Services has received notification from the State of additional <br />funds for the current fiscal year for the Crisis Intervention program. The department plans to <br />use the additional State allocation of $111,571 to pay for crisis related heating needs for <br />Orange County residents. This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these funds <br />and brings the budget for this program to $249,349 for fiscal year 2007-08. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these donated funds for the above stated <br />purposes. (See Attachment 1, column #2) <br />Library Services <br />4. The Library has received grant funds totaling $1,000 from Wal-Mart for Children's Summer <br />Reading and Afterschool Programs. The Department plans to use the funds for a number of <br />interactive~children's activities, including after school programs and book week programming. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these donated funds for the above stated <br />purposes. (See Attachment 1, column #3) <br />Arts Commission <br />5. The North Carolina Arts Council has awarded the Arts Commission aone-time increase in <br />Technical Assistance funding of $375, bringing the County's state arts grant total to $36,505 <br />for fiscal year 2007-08. The Arts Commission plans to use these funds to hire a facilitator for <br />the commission's annual retreat. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these for the above stated purposes. (See <br />Attachment 1, column #4) <br />Health Department <br />6. The Health Department has received notification from the N. C. Department of Health and <br />Human Services of the receipt.of $20,000 Pandemic Influenza continuation funds for fiscal <br />year 2007-08. The department plans to use these funds to purchase additional handheld <br />computers and GPS software for the units, and training. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these for the above stated purposes.
