~~ <br />C; <br />MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ~' <br />MONDAY, JUNE 19, 1978 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, <br />June 19, 1978 at 7:30 p.m., in the District courtzvom of the <br />conductoaspubliclhearpngugo considerraorezoning requestg fas to <br />Curtis Bane. <br />Commissioners present were Chairman Richard Tiahittedr members <br />Jan Pinney, Donald Willhoit and Norman Walker. <br />Commissioner p7arman'Gustaveson was absent. <br />Planning Board members present were Vice Chairperson Marilyn <br />Riddle, Jean Anderson, Lindsey Efland, John Scarlett, Art Cleary, <br />Col. William Breeze and Hazel Lunsfard. <br />Chairman Whitted called the meeting to order and stated the <br />meeting had been called to hear the rezoning request of Curtis <br />Bane to rezone 105 acres of land located in Eno Township from <br />residential to general commercial. <br />Mr. Whitted asked Eddie Kirk of the Planning staff to present <br />the request to the Boards. <br />Mr. Kirk stated the property is located in Eno Township between <br />Interstate Highway $5 and Old Highway No. 10: In the general <br />area of this property are two mobile home parks, businesses of <br />general commercial nature and two ss6de~~sion5. The N. C. <br />Railroad has an easement near the p p Y• <br />Chairman Whitted asked Mr. Bane if he had any comment to <br />make regarding the request. <br />Mr. Bane stated that about six years ago pe employedTheixultants <br />to advise him regarding the best use ro ergs wouldrbe.for industrial. <br />advise was that the best use of the p P Y ro ert for <br />Mr. Bane stated he had decided instead to use the p p Y <br />commercial. He spoke of the advantage of having the railroad run <br />near by and the accessibility to I-85. He stated the land was too <br />low far residential use. The land is ideally located between <br />Hillsborough, Durham and Chapel Hill and he feels a commercial <br />use of the property will bring in additional revenue for the <br />County. He stated that he hoped to locate a warehouse for a non <br />manufacturing type business. <br />Chairman Whitted asked if anyone was present to speak in favor <br />of the rezoning request. Mr. G. R. Flowers, stated he felt the land <br />should be zoned commercial and that Orange County needs industry to <br />help with the County taxes. He stated the property was not good <br />thatrthedCountY requestrthelHighwaysDepartmentftohupgradewtherraaded <br />and to maintain the road. <br />The Chairman asked if anyone wished to speak against the rezoning <br />request.
