Dr. Earl Sommers has resigned from the Area Mental Health Board. <br /> This vacancy should be filled by a physician. The Chairman stated the <br /> Regional Office of HEW had indicated that additional appointments of <br /> females should be made to this Board. Mr. Whitted added he did have <br /> the names of three female physicians to shom he would like resumes sent. <br /> This item will be added to a later agenda. <br /> D. Sherry Wogen has resigned from the Carrboro Planning Board. <br /> This is for information only, and a recommendation will be forthcoming <br /> from the Carrboro Planning Board. <br /> The Board referred again to Item b: Appointment of Bill Lessig to <br /> the EMS Council. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner Gustaveson, <br /> it was moved and adopted to appoint Bill Lessig as an at-large member to <br /> the EMS Council. <br /> E. Wake County has requested the Board of Commissioners name one <br /> representative to a committee concerning the protection of the watershed <br /> surrounding the Falls of the Neuse Reservoir. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner Gustaveson, <br /> it was moved and adopted that Commissioner Willhoit be Orange County ' s <br /> appointee to this committee. <br /> The Clerk was instructed to inform the Wake County Manager of this <br /> action. <br /> The Board referred again to Item 10-A: Appointments of four persons <br /> to fill vacancies on the Commission for Women. <br /> Commissioner Gustaveson nominated Miriam Singer of Bingham Township. <br /> Commissioner Willhoit nominated April Hart of Chapel Hill Township. <br /> Commissioner Whitted nominated Melissa Tufts of Hillsborough Township. <br /> Commissioner Pinney nominated Betty J. Rogers of Cedar Grove Township. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Willhoit, seconded by Commissioner Pinney, <br /> it was moved and adopted to appoint Miriam Singer, April Hart, Betty J. <br /> Rogers , and Melissa Tufts to the Orange County Commission for Women. <br /> Item 11 : The Manager recommends the budget amendment shown in the <br /> agenda attachment be approved. <br /> The agenda attachment indicated changes relating to the School Bond <br /> issue, a further distribution of funds previously appropriated for Central <br /> Dispatch, additional funds for liability insurance, and increased revenues <br /> and appropriations for the Housing Authority and the South Orange Fire <br /> District. The Finance Director indicated two additional changes which will <br /> effect the Contingency Fund. 1), The industrial sewer project with the <br /> Town of Hillsborough, and 2) the $7,600 allocation to the Board of Elections , <br /> which will bring the Contingency Fund balance to $47 , 322 . <br /> Commissioner Walker raised the question of where the money will come <br /> from to have the County Attorney look into a possible suit against those <br /> signers of the challenges . ' <br /> The Finance Officer stated this money would come from the $50 ,000 <br /> budgeted for legal services . It was pointed out that the only separate <br /> budgeted allocation for legal services is for the Title IV-D Program. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner Gustaveson, <br /> it was moved and adopted to approve the budget amendment, which includes <br /> the two allocations from the Contingency Fund. <br /> For copy of budget amendment see page 557 of this book. <br />
