~. ~r~_ A meeting of the Board of Commissioners `or Orange County, North Carolina, rues held at Hillsborough, North Carolina, the regular place of meeting at 7:30 ~+.m., Tuesday, Febru~.ry 21, II 1978. Present: Commissioners Pdorman Gustaveson, Jan Pi Norman Walker, Richard Whitted, and ponald Willhoit. Absent: None ******,r~r**~*****************a~****,t******~****x***~**~r*~**~r******** The following resolution was read to the Board: WHEREAS in 1971 the North Carolina C,eneral ?assembly enacted Article 33B of Chapter 143 of the General Statutes, which iarticle .is commonly known as the North Carolina O»en Meetings jLaw; and WIIEREAS the purpose o£ the Open Meetings Law is a simple and salutary one; to insure that the business of the public be conducted in the view of t;te z~ublic so that the people may shave the werewithal to be better informed; and WHEREAS the public policy of the Open "Metings Laty as stated by the General Assembly in G.S. §143-318.1 is as .follows: "Whereas the commissions, committees, boards, councils, and other governing and governmental bodies which administer the legislative and executive functions of this State and its political subdivisions exist solely to conduct the peoples' business, it is the public policy o.f this State that the hearings, deliberations and actions of said bodies be conducted openly." ~ and; r!STON, COLEMAN >NO BERNHOL2 'T0.7NEYS AT LAYJ ~HAPEL HILL, N.
