ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: September 10, 2009 <br />Action Agend~- <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT• Follow-up with Interim Manager <br />DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Cover Memo with Assignment <br />Summaries <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Frank Clifton, 245-2300 <br />PURPOSE: To provide the Board with an opportunity to discuss and follow-up on the August <br />24, 2009 report from the Interim County Manager regarding County departments, staff, <br />organization, and activities. <br />BACFCGROUND: With the departure. of former County Manager Laura Blackmon on June 30, <br />2009, the Board of Commissioners contracted with Mr. Frank Clifton to serve as Interim County <br />Manager while the Board pursued hiring a permanent County Manager. In addition to Mr. <br />Clifton's responsibilities for managing County operations, the Board requested that the Interim <br />Manager review and assess County departments, staff, organization, and activities and provide <br />a report back to the Board. The Interim Manager conducted this review and assessment and <br />shared his conclusions with the Board on August 24, 2009.. <br />Due to time constraints, Board members had limited opportunity on August 24th to discuss the <br />assessment report with Mr. Clifton and with other Board members. This work session allows <br />Board members to converse with Mr. Clifton and other members regarding the assessment <br />report and provide any feedback and/or direction. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with discussion of the report <br />from the Interim Manager. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Interim Manager recommends that the Board discuss the report <br />and provide any feedback and/or direction to the Interim Manager. <br />
