On Friday, January 13, 1978, North Carolina and <br />particularly Orange County, was struck by a severe <br />ice storm; and <br />ti~7HEREAS, On Thursday, January 19, 1978, North Carolina and <br />Prange County again was struck by an .ice storm <br />which caused hardships to residents and to utility <br />companies serving the residents of the County; and <br />WHEREAS, Due to the ice storm, utility companies have worked <br />long and. hard hours restoring power to its customers; <br />and <br />47HEREAS, Utility companies, specifically Piedmont Rural <br />Electricification Association in Orange County, <br />have suffered great financial loss in replacing <br />utility poles, electrical lines, supplying additional <br />work foxce, plus many hours of overtime; and <br />WHEREAS, Piedmont REA has described the effects of;:the storm <br />as "devastating" and has further requested the Prange <br />County Board of Commissioners ask the Governor of the <br />State of North Carolina to declare Orange County a <br />disaster area. <br />BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners does this day, January 23, 197$, request <br />Gvveznor James B.
