Specimens may reach over 100 m in <br />length in l�orth{Carolina. The periostrapur i <br />eneral► smoothy shiny. The color nay ram <br />from yellowish to dark brown, Green rays n"ay extend over the entire <br />s.ufface of the shell. The anteir'icir end is rounded and the posterld r end <br />is -rounded except a straight margin niay ast rear the terminus of the <br />-posterior ridge.. The dorsal margin is straight with the umbos <br />extending above thus margin. The ventral margin Is irregularly rounded, <br />fowth rests are clearly evident when the shell is held toward a bright <br />light. Tli� posterior'slope,tends to be rbughened even on shells <br />t nding to be smooth. Lateral teeth ire absent and the, <br />ps6udocardinal te6th are vestigial in each valve. The nacre tends to <br />be 'fridescent and ranges in color from gray to biui�. The nacre may be <br />ensively colored salmon. <br />Distribution (see ram <br />The range of the creeper iholudcs both the Aftntic Slope and the <br />'1 ritericr Basin. It is found throug h the M ississipp i and Olio drainages <br />from central Texas to Lake Winrilpeg, Canada.
