Britton and Fuller (1970 and Fidler and Bereza (197 4) <br />add that a distinguishing charadefikic-of fernale-yelloW lampmussels <br />is ihe.'development of the mantle, anterior to a.larger darkly <br />-pigmented "eyespot,11 into' strongly developed flap- of tissue on each <br />mantle lobe. At one <br />time this species probably ranged throughout most of the Atlantic <br />Slope &aInages in North C6rofina; however, historical. records <br />provided by Johnson (1970) come from the Cooper- Santee, <br />Waccarnaw, Cape Fear, neuse, Pamlico, o, and Chowan -drainages.. it <br />appears,that this spedies has been recently extirpated from the Black <br />River in Sampson, Bladen, and Fender counties and from Ruin Creek <br />in Vance County. <br />Distribution by County: Pee-Dee River Basin: Montgomery Co.
