Resolution Recognizing The Peoples Channel for Ten Years of Community <br /> Service <br /> The Board considered a resolution recognizing The Peoples Channel, which is <br /> celebrating ten years of service to the Orange County community. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier recognized the People's Channel and thanked the Board of <br /> County Commissioners for this resolution. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Hemminger <br /> to approve a resolution, which is incorporated by reference, recognizing The Peoples Channel <br /> which is celebrating ten years of service to the Orange County community. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> v. Lease Renewal — Bradshaw Quarry Solid Waste Convenience Center <br /> The Board considered the renewal of the lease for the Solid Waste Convenience <br /> Center located on Bradshaw Quarry Road at a cost of $400 per month and authorizing the <br /> Chair to sign subject to final review by staff and the County Attorney. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs asked why the Board should approve this lease if there is a <br /> recommendation from staff to close this facility. <br /> Laura Blackmon said that the SWCC closing would not occur until October if the Board <br /> of County Commissioners closes the center. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said that he would like to flag this and have it on June 16th <br /> agenda and hopefully the Board of County Commissioners would decide by then whether or <br /> not to open or close it and give one message only. <br /> Laura Blackmon said that the Board will have to approve the lease whether it is closed <br /> or not because the lease expires on July 1st. <br /> Commissioner Yuhasz and Commissioner Gordon agreed with delaying this until June <br /> 16th <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Yuhasz to <br /> table this item until June 16th <br /> VOTE: Ayes, 5; Nays, 2 (Chair Foushee and Commissioner Nelson) <br /> w. Lease Renewal: Community School for People Under Six <br /> The Board considered renewing a lease through June 30, 2010 for space used as a <br /> daycare by Community School for People Under Six at the Northside Center in Chapel Hill and <br /> authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> Commissioner Yuhasz said that he has a question about how the decision was made to <br /> subsidize this particular facility and not other agencies. He has no problem with this agency, <br /> but it is an outside agency that did not go through the outside agency funding process. He <br /> wants to flag this for future discussion. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Yuhasz, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br /> approve a one-year lease renewal for space at the Northside facility in Chapel Hill for use as a <br /> daycare by Community School for People under Six through June 30, 2010; and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the lease renewal on behalf of the Board. <br />
