For 10 years I did continuing education and training for state and local public health agencies. In 1995, I designed and became the director of the NC Public Health Awareness Program. Before working in public health, I did clinical counseling and training with the Wright School Residential Treatment Program for Adollescents in Durham. In the mid-1970s, I worked for two years in the Orange County School System in a dropout prevention program. I currently teach social marketing at the Leadership Program at the UNC School of Public Health and do private consulting in marketing and communication with public health agencies and programs agencies across the state.
