ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: August 18, 2009
Action Agenda ~
Item No.
SUBJECT: Agreement Renewal Between Health Department, the UNC School of Dentistry
and UNC Hospitals for Dental Resident
DEPARTMENT: Health
PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S):
Agreement
INFORMATION CONTACT:
Rosemary Summers, 245-2411
PURPOSE: To renew the agreement between the Health Department and the UNC School of
Dentistry and UNC Hospitals for dental resident services.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Health Department (OCHD) annually contracts with the
UNC School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals for the services of one full-time equivalent dental
resident for four and one-half days a week. The residents provide services at both the
Hillsborough and the Carrboro dental clinics and provide approximately 1,200 dental visits per
year.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the agreement is $51,589 for the Fiscal Year 2009-
2010. This covers the cost of the salary and fringe benefits for the resident. The total cost is
the same amount as the previous year. There are sufficient funds approved in the FY 2009-
2010 budget for the department to cover this cost.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Interim Manager recommends that the Board approve the
agreement and authorize the Chair to sign.
