Project -Temporary Installations Made for the Elements <br />Cedar Grove Park (Cedar Grove, NC) <br />Receipt Deadline for Submission: 5 pm on Thursday, May 7, 2009 <br />The Orange County Arts Commission and the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department seek to <br />commission one temporary environmentally based public artwork to be installed at Cedar Grove Park in Cedar <br />Grove, NC. <br />Project Intent <br />The T.I.M.E. project seeks to commission one temporary, visually engaging and conceptually rich environmental <br />artwork to be installed at Cedar Grove Park in Cedar Grove, NC. The proposed artwork should relate to the <br />theme of recreation and baseball athletics. <br />recreation and baseball athletics <br />defined: <br />1. recreation: refreshment of one's mind or body after work through an amusing or stimulating activity <br />2. athletics: the principles or system of athletic exercises and training. It is anticipated that this park will be <br />the leading park for baseball and softball in northern Orange County. <br />Orange County Arts Commission challenges artists to create artwork that will inspire, engage, question, puzzle, <br />amuse and otherwise influence the citizens of and visitors to Cedar Grove. Orange County Arts Commission is <br />particularly interested in interactive art. Interactive work promotes actions and it transforms participants into active <br />contributors to the creative process. Please visit these websites for examples of temporary artworks: <br />www.austingreenart.org and www.burningman.com. <br />No artwork reouirinq concrete Dads or other environmentally damaging approaches will be considered At the <br />agreed upon time of removal, the artist will return the installation site to its original condition, subject to the site's <br />approval <br />Media must be low maintenance, safe for both children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a <br />permanent mark on the environment when removed. <br />Site Information <br />Artwork will be located in Cedar Grove Park (5800 Highway 86) in Cedar Grove, seven miles north of Hillsborough, <br />NC. Specific sites for the artwork will be determined by the requirements of the selected artwork in conjunction with <br />the T.I.M.E. Project Selection Committee. The outdoor site chosen is a working fuel tank surrounded by a <br />cinder block wall, located at the entrance to the new Cedar Grove Park on Hwy. 86 N., in rural Orange <br />County. (Please see attached photos.) <br />Access to electricity will be available for installation only at this site. <br />To prevent irreparable environmental damage, no large holes may be dug or foreign organic materials released into <br />the environment. <br />
