NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> does hereby 1) accept on behalf of Orange County the agricultural conservation easement to <br /> protect prime farmland owned by William Breeze Sr.; 2) approve the execution of this <br /> conservation easement agreement with William Breeze Sr., in accordance with the terms of <br /> the proposed easement agreement, subject to final review by staff and the County Attorney; 3) <br /> authorize the Chair and the Clerk to sign the easement agreement on behalf of the Board, with <br /> a closing to occur on or about March 28, 2008; and 4) authorize an ERCD representative to <br /> sign any and all closing documents upon consultation with the County Attorney. <br /> This the 15th day of January, 2008. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Nelson, seconded by Commissioner Foushee to <br /> approve a resolution to approve the purchase of and acceptance by Orange County of an <br /> agricultural conservation easement for the Breeze family farm and authorize the Chair and the <br /> Clerk to sign the agreement, subject to final review by staff and the County Attorney. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Colonel Breeze said that this is a good day for the Breeze family and he is pleased to <br /> observe the support the Board of County Commissioners has given to agriculture. He said that <br /> when he first retired, he wondered about what to do and he was interested in agriculture. He <br /> is on the Soil Conservation Board and he has enjoyed it. He said that he is looking forward to <br /> a farm dedicated to N.C. State and the experiments that will take place. He said that he was <br /> very fortunate to work with Rich Shaw and ERCD. <br /> Bill Breeze (Col. Breeze's son) said that they encourage the Board of County <br /> Commissioners to continue to support farming in Orange County and they are looking into <br /> organic farming. <br /> All County Commissioners commended the Breeze family. <br /> d. Proclamation Recognizing Climate Change Awareness Day <br /> The Board considered a proclamation recognizing January 31, 2008 as Orange County <br /> Climate Change Awareness Day. <br /> Commissioner Foushee read the proclamation. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Nelson to <br /> approve a proclamation recognizing January 31, 2008 as Orange County Climate Change <br /> Awareness Day. <br /> PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING <br /> CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS DAY <br /> WHEREAS, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that many <br /> natural systems are being affected by regional climate changes, particularly <br /> temperature increases; and, <br /> WHEREAS, increasing evidence associates changes in physical and biological systems with <br /> human activities; and, <br />
