This <br />resolution established the starting salary for the Sheriff's position <br />as Step 1 of Salary Grade 80 in the Orange County <br />Classification and Pay Plan. It established the starting salary for <br />the Register of Deeds position as Step 1 of Salary Grade 78. <br />The October 1997 resolution provided that the salaries would <br />not be altered or amended until after the persons elected Sheriff <br />and Register of Deeds in the 1998 election take office. <br />Thereafter, it provided the Board of Commissioners may adjust <br />the starting salary of the candidate elected considering the years <br />of service and performance in related experience of the person <br />elected. <br />Pursuant to the October 1997 resolution, the attached resolution <br />establishes the starting salary of the Sheriff and confirms the <br />
