The <br />school is located in the vicinity of Cedar Grove, a rural crossroads community located in <br />northwestern Orange County (see Vicinity Map). The White Oak Grove School was placed on the <br />National Register Study List by the North Carolina National Register Advisory Committee on <br />October 8, 1998. <br />The Carr community, a traditionally African- American enclave near the Cedar Grove rural <br />crossroads, decided to build a school within their neighborhood because their children were <br />forced to travel several miles to attend segregated schools. <br />1 <br />16a- <br />
