Box 29580 <br />Raleigh, North Carolina 27626 -0580 <br />Dear Ms. Miller. <br />d <br />\rt <br />2 <br />Please be advised that the Orange County Board of Commissioners endorses the <br />attached resolution from the Town of Carrboro in its quest for funding from the "Mobile <br />Source Emissions Reduction Grants" administered by the North Carolina <br />Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Air Quality. <br />County Commissioner Stephen H. Halkiotis has volunteered his time to work with the <br />planning committee that includes representatives from the Town of Carrboro, a teacher <br />in the Chapel Hill- Carrboro School System, Orange County citizens concerned about <br />air quality issues in the Triangle area, and Ms. Lynn Moody, Director of Workforce <br />Development for the Orange County School System. <br />Possible locations for the training component of this hands on conversion of gasoline <br />powered vehicles to electric power include the Carrboro Public Works facility, the <br />Orange County Public Works facility, and other appropriate repair and welding facilities <br />on the campus of Orange High School in Hillsborough. Future training could also take <br />place at the newly established Skills Development Center sponsored by Orange County <br />Government and located in the heart of downtown Chapel Hill. <br />The Orange County Commissioners are keenly aware of the need to improve air quality <br />throughout the Triangle area and the need to reduce air pollution from the constantly <br />increasing number of gasoline powered automobiles and trucks.
