~~2 <br />The minutes of February 23, 1977, were reviewed and Commissioner <br />Willhoit requested an amendment to one section. Upon motion of Commis- <br />sioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner Willhoit, it was moved and <br />adopted to approve the February 23, 1977 minutes as amended. <br />The Board reviewed the minutes of February 28, 1977, and indicated <br />certain corrections to be made. Upon motion of Commissioner Willhoit, <br />deconded by Commissioner Gustaveson, the minutes of February 28, 1977, <br />were approved. <br />Chairman Whitted referred to Item 9: The State Department of Trans- <br />portation recommends the addition of Ann Road to the State Highway System. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and adopted to accept the recommendation 4f the _ <br />Department of Transportation to add Ann Road to the State Highway System. <br />Item 5: The Manager recommends adoption of a resolution approving <br />the sale of two properties acquired through tax foreclosures. The Manager <br />informed the Board that the proposed conveyances will return to former <br />owners, or their heirs, property acquired by foreclosure. In each case, <br />the conveyance is for the amount of the County's tax liens plus costs <br />incurred during the foreclosure process. One of the parcels of land is <br />located off of Highway #70 toward Cheeks Crossing in Cheeks Township, <br />and the other is located in Chapel Hill Township near Carrboro, off of <br />Highway X54. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and the r-esolutimns approving the sale of the <br />two properties were adapted. <br />(For copies of the two Resolutions approving the sale of two <br />properties see page 123 of this book.) <br />Item 7 on the Agenda: Bids were opened for new motor vehicles on <br />February 25th. The County Manager stated that the report on bid opening <br />was for the Soard's information. All of the purchased vehicles will be <br />used in the Sheriff's Department. <br />(For copies of the Report of Bid Opening, see page 125 of this beok.) __ <br />This item will appear an the March 15th agenda with the Manager's <br />recommendation. <br />A. B. Coleman, Jx., County Attorney, brought to the Board's attention <br />the matter of a vehincle which had been left on the County's parking lot <br />for several years. He asked that the Board authorize him to take appro- <br />priate action to find the owner of the vehicle, and after all means have <br />been exhausted, to take action to sell the car and turn the proceeds aver <br />to the Clerk of Superior Court. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Willhoit, seconded by Commissioner Pinney, <br />the County Attorney was instructed to attempt to find the rightful owner <br />of the vehicle, .and after this attemph should take action to sell the <br />vehicle with the proceeds being turned over to the Clerk of Court. <br />Item 11: Appointments <br />A. One vacancy exists on the Commission on `the Status of Women. <br />The Board requested that the Commission make a recommendation to the County <br />Board for this vacancy. <br />B. One vacancy exist on the Durham-Orange Employment Training Council. <br />Chairman Whitted stated that this vacancy exist due to tha resigna- <br />tion of Mr. Leslie Prystrup. The County Manager stated that no recommenda- <br />tion was available at this tiem. DOETS has suggested that someone with <br />experience in youth services would be helpful in the summer program. <br />Commissioner Willhoit nominated Wes Hare to serve on the Council. <br />Commissioner Walker asked if this appointment could be in conflict with <br />Mr. Hare's position with Joint Orange Chatham Community Action. <br />The County Attorney was asked to research this matter to see if Mr. <br />Hare is eligible to serve on the DOETS Council. This item was deferred. <br />
