14 <br />GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF LEGACY <br />North Carolina's Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan <br />All projects funded by the State Historic Preservation Office with federal Historic Preservation <br />Fund (HPF) grants must address one or more of the goals included in Legacy, North Carolina's <br />comprehensive historic preservation plan for the 1994s. The goals and objectives aze printed <br />below for your reference. <br />Please include in your project narrative reference to~ecific Goals and Objectives (e.g.#4A), as <br />well as describing how the project will meet the goals and objectives (e.g. by updating the 1976 <br />azchitectural survey of Anytown, NC). Applications which do not address Legacy goals and <br />objectives will be eliminated from funding consideration. If you wish to discuss the goals and <br />objectives and whether the project you plan to submit will qualify under them, feel free to call the <br />staff members listed on page 4 of the instructions. <br />Goal #1--Education/Technical Assistance <br />Educate the gublic and public officials about the state's historic resources and preservation <br />programs. <br />Objectives: <br />A Develop statistics and data on the economic benefits of historic preservation and how <br />successfully preservation antivities aze working in North Carolina. <br />B. Promote historic preservation and North Carolina.'s historic resources through educational <br />materials and programs tha± are easily understood and accessible to all the state's citizens <br />and its leaders. <br />C. In partnership with preserv 3tion and educational organizations, including the Departmern <br />of Public Instruction and lc :al boazds of education, develop historic preservation materials <br />and programs for grades R through 12. <br />D. Cooperate with colleges and universities to incorporate historic preservation courses and <br />research projects into history, anthropology, planning, conservation, and any other related <br />curriculunns. <br />E. Work with community colleges and vocational training programs to develop technical <br />courses and apprenticeship programs that teach preservation skills and techniques. <br />F. Conduct workshops for building and planning professionals and cultural resources <br />consultants to enhance their knowledge of preservation techniques and programs relevant <br />to delivery of their services. <br />G. Provide technical assistance and expertise on historic preservation matters. <br />
