12 <br />3 <br />Predevelopment projects may include: archaeological investigations, architectural <br />plans and specifications, engineering services, or feasibility studies for restoration. <br />Development projects may include archaeological excavations or <br />restoration/rehabilitation of historic resources. Structures or sites must be listed in the <br />National Register of Historic Places, either individually or as a contributing property <br />within a National Register historic district. <br />Preservation Agreements are required for all grant-assisted development projects. <br />Deed Covenants are required on an escalating scale for development grants in excess <br />of $10,000. These time-limited covenants are registered with the deed to the property. <br />APPLICATION PROCESS <br />Projects in CLG Jurisdictions: Send the completed original application and three <br />copes to the CLG in whose jurisdiction the project will take place by December 15, <br />1998. The CLG commission will evaluate all applications received by the December 15 <br />deadline and submit the original and two copies to the HPO by January 31. 1999 (one <br />copy should be retained for the CLG's files). <br />Projects in Non-CLG Areas: Send the completed original application and two copies <br />to the HPO by January 31, 1999. <br />Mail original and two copies of applications to: Grants Administrator, <br />State Historic Preservation Office, 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601-2807. <br />(Note: applicafions sent by fax ore-mail are not acceptable) <br />Successful applications will be announced in March 1999. Projects may begin <br />April 1, 1999. <br />Projects must be completed by September 30, 2000. <br />YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT: <br />• HPO staff will work with applicants to fully develop project proposal, including a <br />realistic budget (see contacts below). <br />• Grant funds may represent up to 60% of total project costs. The nonfederal <br />matching share must constitute at least 40% of project costs. <br />• Federal standards and accounting procedures apply to grants. <br />• Payment of grant funds is on a reimbursement basis. <br />
