These grants are used to support programs in the visual, performing, and <br />literary arts. Funded projects include theater performances, art exhibits, writers' conferences, <br />children's arts and crafts, programs for seniors, and outdoor concerts, each to benefit Orange <br />County citizens. <br />Orange County Arts Commission Grants, which are county funded and limited to $1,000 or less, <br />differ from the "Grassroots Grants," to be awarded at this meeting as well, in that Orange County <br />acts as a Designated County Partner with the State to provide funds for Grassroots Grants. <br />The Orange County Arts Commission, as an approved Designated County Partner (DCP), sub <br />grants Grassroots Grants to local arts organizations from funding provided by the North Carolina <br />Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program. Funds are distributed for arts programming that reflects <br />the racial and cultural diversity of the county. Each organization receiving a Grassroots Grant <br />matches the grant amount with local dollars in order to receive an award. <br />Recommendation: <br />The Manager recommends that the Board of County Commissioners acknowledge the local <br />recipients of the awards during the January 19, 1999 meeting with the presentation of checks by <br />the Board Chair, Alice Gordon. <br />
