10 <br />residences are taxed at the same rate as other County property owners. Coupled with the need to <br />pay taxes on machinery as well, many farmers see taxes as an additional burden to their <br />operations. Lower taxes on machinery and farm buildings would be beneficial for many. <br />Farmers have mixed feelings concerning farmland preservation programs here in Orange County. <br />Some feel that programs such as these would be an excellent way for their farms to be protected <br />from further development, while others stated they weren't interested in the programs. Many <br />farmers expressed interest in knowing more about the preservation programs. Lastly, farmers <br />overwhelmingly support the creation of an agricultural advocate position to act as a liaison <br />between government and themselves. <br />1998 Orange County Agricultural Survey <br />
