43 <br />Commissioner Gustaveson stated that he felt it was important to <br />appoint these people in order that they might become oriented as to <br />what the work involves. Chairman Whitted stated that he agreed with <br />Commissioner Gustaveson. <br />The Chairman called for the vote on the motion. Voting aye were <br />Commissioner Walker, Willhoit and Pinney. 'Voting nay were Commissioners <br />Whitted and Gustaveson. The motion was declared passed. <br />C. The Extension Chairman recommends the names of Ms. Tom Gattis, <br />Mr. Ed Purcell, Mrs. Richard Roberts, Mr. A. T. Davison, Mrs. W. L. <br />Miller, be named to the County Extension Advisory Hoard for a three <br />year term. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moveld and adopted to appoint Ms. Tom Gattis, Mr. <br />Ed Purcell, Mrs. Richard Roberts, Mr. A. T. Davison, Mrs. W. L. Miller <br />to the County Extension Advisory Board far a three year term. <br />D. One vacancy exists on the Area Mental Health Board. <br />Commissioner Whitted nominated Frances Hargraves to this Board. <br />Commissioner Gustaveson stated that he felt an appointment should <br />come from the Hillsborough area. This appointment was deferred until <br />the January 18th meeting. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Walker, it was moved and adopted that Jan Pinney be reappointed to the <br />Area Mental Health Board. <br />Item 25 concerning discussion of the Durham-Orange Employment <br />and Training slots for CETA Funds. The County Manager stated that a <br />reduction of 25 percent was being required for Orange County's govern- <br />mental unit. He recommended that two positions in the Social Services <br />Department be transferred to the County roll, if these persons passed <br />the State Merit Examination. He further recommended that four positions <br />be transferred to the County roll within the Courthouse. This action <br />would take care of the required 35 percent reduction. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Pinney, it was moved and adopted to accept the Manager's recommendation. <br />pertaining to the cutback in CETA Funds as related to positions in the <br />Courthouse and the Social Services Department. <br />The County Manager informed the Board that an appropriation needed <br />to be made to take care of the. expenses of the Intergovernmental Dinner <br />scheduled for January 5, 1977. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Willhoit, $600 was appropriated far this expense to be taken from <br />the Contingency Fund.
