Collins: <br />I am a bicyclist, and this past Sunday I had my second disturbing encounter on St Mary's <br />Road with a performance car in the past six months. Just like last time the driver was <br />traveling in the opposite direction from me. He pulled out to pass, and even though he saw <br />I was traveling in the opposite direction, and he would not be able to pass without forcing <br />me off the road he continued to pass. I had to ride off the road into the grass to save my <br />life. <br />I believe these instances and countless other less serious incidents are clear evidence that <br />drivers on the section of St Mary's Rd. between Highway 70 bypass and Guess Rd. are <br />either unaware of their obligation to share the road with cyclists or they lack of respect for <br />cyclists and the speed limit law. <br />I respectfully request that the NC Highway Patrol increase its patrols on this road and set up <br />regular enforcement of the speed limit. <br />Sincerely yours, <br />Mark Schulz <br />cc: Slade McCalip <br />Orange County Planning Department <br />306F Revere Road <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />
