McADAMS COMPANY, INC. <br />CONSULTING ENGINEERS <br />POST OFFICE BOX 14005 <br />RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NORTH CAROLINA 27709 <br />(919) 361-5000 FAX (919) 361-2269 <br />July 29, 1998 <br />Emily Cameron <br />Orange County Planning Department <br />306F Revere Road <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br />RE: Request for Exception to Tree Protection Areas <br />Lawrence Park PDH-R-3 Development Application <br />DBS-95000 <br />Dear Ms. Cameron: <br />On behalf of EWP Management Inc., the applicants for the proposed Lawrence <br />Park development, we are requesting an exception to the tree protection areas in <br />accordance with the exception policy stated in Section IV-B-8-c-2 of the Subdivi- <br />sion Ordinance of Orange County. <br />In particular we are requesting the exception for the purposes described in Section <br />IV-B-8-c-2-[c] that discusses the necessity to remove trees in order to construct <br />proposed improvements. The full text of that section is attached for reference. <br />The previously submitted landscape plan identifies the wooded areas to be pre- <br />served and shows the proposed street and yard trees to be placed in those areas for <br />which the tree protection clearing exception is requested. <br />The. 85.6 acre site of the proposed Lawrence Park development has approximately <br />42 acres of open farm field and 43.6 wooded acres. <br />The Lawrence Park application proposes to preserve 13 acres of the existing <br />wooded area as: 1) perimeter buffer, 2)* rear yard tree protection area for lots abut- <br />ting the perimeter buffer, and 3) interior park and recreation land. In addition the <br />plan proposes to plant 830± trees in the 7.4 acres of currently open field areas that <br />will be the 100 feet wide perimeter buffer along Lawrence Road. <br />
