Planned fommunity Development. Inc.
6qoo. Slade Hill Road 7
Ralelo, HC 11615
August 24, 1998
Mr. Mike Venable
Assistant District Engineer
N. C. Dept. of Transportation
P. O. Box 766
Graham, NC 27253-0766
Dear Mike:
Thank you very much for the time you took on Tuesday, August 11, to review the
contents of Tommy Dyer's letter of August 3d to Emily Cameron of the Orange County
Planning Department regarding our Lawrence Park community. This letter is being
written in an effort to recap my understanding of the discussion and various conclusions
that were reached relative to these points. I will address them_ -as they appeared in the
August 3rd letter.
A 1 — We are in receipt of the standard turn lane design which you are requiring
for the U. S. 70A and Lawrence Road intersections with streets coming from the
Lawrence Park community. While we may well have the need for future discussion
about the specific design requirements, we do understand our obligation to provide for a
left and right turn lane at these intersections.
A 4 — The current plans did not include any roadway improvements at the
intersection of Lawrence Road and Old N. C. 10 because those improvements are not
being required as a part of our submittal.
A 6 — Site distance triangles as required by. NCDOT per the standards you
provided will be incorporated into our drawings at all intersections associated with the
project. It is our understanding that streets with curb/gutter sections do not require the
"flared" right-of-way at intersections.
A 7 — We clearly understand that access permits are required to make road
connections to any roadways in the NCDOT road system. Likewise, I would confirm our
understanding that improvements to eAsting roadways will be constructed -.
simultaneously to internal roadway development in conjunction with the specific* phases
in which the connections to the existing state road system will be made. We likewise
of (919) qSI.6SR W (919) q8l.6pq pdinc@mindspdng.com
1a 7
