17! <br />Kimley -Horn <br />and Associates, Inc. <br />Accident Experience <br />Accident data and statistics were obtained from NCDOT for the same four <br />intersections, for the period January 1, 1995 through December 31, 1997. <br />These are summarized below. <br />Lawrence Road at US 70 Business <br />Number of accidents: 3 <br />Fatal Accidents: 0 <br />Accident rate /100MEV: 51.72 <br />Comments: Two of the accidents involved left turns, and the other was a right - <br />angle accident of two through vehicles. <br />Lawrence Road at Old NC 10 <br />Number of accidents: 5 <br />Fatal Accidents: I <br />Accident rate /100MEV: 99.21 <br />Comments: The fatal accident involved a driver running off the road while <br />going straight ahead on old NC 10, and did not appear to involve the <br />intersection. <br />Old NC 10 at NC 86 <br />Number of accidents: 5 <br />Fatal Accidents: 0 <br />Accident rate /100MEV: 50.20 <br />Comments: All three accidents were rear -end accidents, including three <br />southbound vehicles on NC 86 and two westbound vehicles on Old NC 10. <br />US 70 Business at US 70 <br />Number of accidents: 1 <br />Fatal Accidents: 0 <br />Accident rate/ 100N1EV: 7.02 <br />Comments: The accident involved an eastbound vehicle striking a parked <br />vehicle. <br />Accommodation of Bicycle and Pedestrian Traffic <br />Sidewalks will be provided along all streets within the subdivision to <br />accommodate pedestrians and small children on bicycles. Other cyclists would <br />use the subdivision streets, on which traffic volumes and speeds will be <br />sufficiently low to accommodate them. <br />Parking at Recreation Sites <br />The recreation areas are planned for use by subdivision residents, who all are <br />within a quarter -mile of the central recreation area and most of whom are <br />within a quarter -mile of the northern site. This distance would allow easy <br />access by foot or by bicycle for almost all residents. <br />
