45 <br />• responsible for maintaining the list of community resources, closed the Orange County office. <br />This, in addition to the vacancy in the coordinator position, has slowed the inventory process. <br />Now that specific events are being planned, it is proposed that the groups participating in the <br />planning of the nutrition and fitness programs also contribute to the identification of county <br />programs. <br />The health department has conducted a cultural sensitivity training for all employees and has <br />contacted the DHHS trainers and has discussed ways to encourage and support other groups to <br />host additional sessions. Also, a protocol for interpreting services has been established and the <br />health department is encouraging department/agency collaboration to provide bi- lingual services <br />to clients. <br />It is important to note that an overriding priority of the Healthy Carolinians in Orange County is <br />• to address the disparity in health status between the white and minority populations. It is <br />believed that major contributing factors to this disparity are the cultural barriers to health care <br />services. Therefore, emphasis has been placed on ensuring cultural and ethnic diversity on the <br />council, the committees and in the planning, implementing and evaluating activities to assure <br />that the strategies used include methods to reduce barriers to services. <br />.7 <br />31 <br />
