WHAT TO DO FIRST? <br />Pre- Construction Process <br />The proper siting and installation of wastewater and groundwater <br />systems is important for the protection of the environment and public health <br />Whether you plan to build, add to a home, or alter the use of your property you <br />must past apply for the appropriate permits and authorizations The permitting <br />process can take some time and involves visits to both the Environmental Health <br />Office and the Planning Department. Below is a list of permits you may need. <br />1. IMPROVEMENT PERMIT <br />If you are building a house or subdividing a lot and <br />there have been no prior evaluations of the lot, you <br />need to begin with an IMPROVEMENT PERMIT APPLICATION. <br />Along with the application and fee, you will need to: <br />• provide a site plan or plat and have property <br />lines located <br />• show where you plan to place the house <br />• make sure that all property lines are visible on <br />the site <br />1 <br />Septic Tank System- means a subsurface wastewa <br />settling tank and a subsurface disposal field. <br />Sewage- means the liquid and solid human body w <br />by water -using fixtures and appliances, including f <br />foodhandling. The term does not include industrial <br />that is combined with industrial process wastewate <br />Site plan- means a drawing not necessarily drawn <br />and proposed property lines with dimensions, the 1, <br />appurtenances, the site for the proposed wastewate <br />ter supplies and surface waters. <br />Wastewater- means any sewage or industrial proc <br />transmitted, or collected from a residence, place of <br />assembly, or other places into .a wastewater system <br />Wastewater system- means a system of wastewat <br />posal in single or multiple components, including <br />lic or community wastewater system, wastewater r <br />ical or biological wastewater treatment system, an, <br />chemical toilet used only for human waste. <br />
