Mrs. Barbour read statement made by Mrs. Mygard of the Sierra Club. <br />Referring to a film strip which shown trees falling into the Eno River. <br />Mrs. Nygard had stated that timbering of this nature would no longer <br />be permitted along the Eno River and that a buffer strip had been insti- <br />tuted, due to the efforts of the Sierra Club. <br />Mrs. Barbour's question was, if a buffer strip had been set aside, <br />how many of the landowners have been informed of tkiis so that timber- <br />. ing operations will comply with the regulations of the thoughts of the <br />Sierra Club. <br />Mrs. Barbour was informed that the Commissioners had not establ- <br />fished any buffer zone and that she should talk with the Forest Service <br />concerning the matter. <br />The Chairman referred to Item 2: Minutes of Commissioners' meeting <br />on October 19, 1976. <br />The minutes of October 19, 1976, were reviewed and discussion.en- <br />sued. The Clerk was requested to verify from the tape one section of <br />the minutes concerning the Technical Committee to review the Zoning <br />Amendments. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Whitted, seconded by Commissioner <br />Pinney, it was moved and adopted that the minutes of October 19, 1976, <br />be approved. <br />Mrs. Garrett referred to Item 3: Appointments <br />A. Two' persons should be named as Trustees for the Firemen's <br />Relief Fund of the Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Department. The Orange <br />Grove Volunteer Fire Department has recommended Dr. Nancy M. Johnson <br />and Mr. Fletcher Holmes. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Whitted, it was moved and adopted that Dr. Nancy Johnson and Fletcher <br />Holmes be named as trustees for the Firemen's Relief Fund of the <br />Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Department. <br />B. The term of Ms. Sonna Loewenthal on the Chapel Hi11 Board of <br />Adjustment expired June 30, 1976, The Board of Adjustment has recom- <br />mended Ms. Loewenthal be reappointed. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Whitted, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson,. it was moved and adopted that Ms. Sonna Loewenthal be <br />reappointed as a member of the Chapel Hill Board of Adjustment. <br />C. The term of Mr. Marion Alexander on the Chapel Hill Board of <br />Adjustment expired June 30, 1976. Mr. Alexander does not desire <br />reappointment. <br />The item was far information only. The Board took no action. <br />D. The Carrboro Board of Aldermen recommends Mr. Art Cleary be <br />named to replace Ms. Margaret Stumpf on the Carrboro Planning Board. <br />Ms. Stumpf's term expires in September, 1978. <br />Discussion ensued. The Chairman informed the Board that Mx. <br />Cleary did not live within the County planning district. <br />Commissioner Pinney nominated Emmett Pendergraph to fill this <br />vacancy. Commissioner Whitted seconded the nomination. <br />All members of the Board voted aye and the motion was declared <br />passed. <br />E. Mr. Donald Willhoit has resigned from the Carrboro Planning <br />Board. His term expires in September, 1981. The Carrboro Broad of <br />Aldermen has recommended Mr. Roger Pratt be named to replace Mr. <br />Willhoit. <br />The Chairman informed the Board that Mr. Pratt, also did not <br />live within the County Planning district. <br />Action concerning this appointment was deferred. <br />
