THE ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSION FOR WOMEN SUBMITS THE <br />FOLLOWING PROCLAMATION TO THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COMMISSIONERS: <br />WHEREAS, American women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made <br />historic contributions to the growth and strength of our nation; and <br />WHEREAS, American women have played and continue to play a critical economic, <br />cultural, and social role in every sphere of the life of the Nation; and <br />WHEREAS, American women served as early leaders in the forefront of every major <br />progressive social change movement; and <br />WHEREAS, these contributions have been historically overlooked and undervalued in <br />the literature, teaching, and study of American history; and <br />WHEREAS, women in Orange County have made and continue to make significant <br />historical contributions to our community, state, and nation; <br />NOW THEREFORE, do we, the Commissioners of Orange County, proclaim the month <br />of March, 1999, as <br />WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH <br />and commend this observance to Orange County citizens. <br />This is the 3rd day of March, 1999. <br />t ~-~,` ~ . <br />Alice M.
