ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 31, 1999 <br />SUBJECT: County /OCS /CHCCS Informational Reports <br />DEPARTMENT: County Manager <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />As listed in "Background" <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 3 <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />John Link or Rod Visser, ext 2300 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968 -4501 <br />Durham 688 -7331 <br />Mebane 336- 227 -2031 <br />PURPOSE: To receive reports from staff /elected officials regarding a variety of school related issues. <br />BACKGROUND: This portion of the meeting provides an opportunity for the three elected boards to <br />receive updates on the topics noted below, and to identify any other topics that staffs may need to research <br />and bring back as the subject of subsequent reports. <br />a) Adopted 1998 -99 School Budgets <br />The two school staffs will review the budgets adopted by the two school boards for the current fiscal year <br />and compare those to the spending plans that were presented to the Board of Commissioners in May 1998. <br />This information is provided in the format used in recent years to present school budget requests that has <br />come to be referred to as the "blue sheets ". <br />Attachment 3a -1— OCS "Blue Sheet" • <br />Attachment 3a -2 — CHCCS "Blue Sheet" <br />b) School Board Policies on Use of School Property <br />The school staffs will briefly outline the policies in place in the two school systems for <br />community /outside agency use of school facilities. <br />Attachment 3b — OCS Facility Use Policy <br />c) Schools Use of Sales Tax Reimbursements <br />The General Assembly enacted legislation during the last session that enables school administrative units <br />to seek reimbursement of sales taxes paid, in a manner similar to that which has been in place for local <br />governments for many years. School staffs will briefly discuss the positive impacts that can be expected <br />and how the additional financial resources will be employed. <br />No attachments <br />
