Attachaent III=B <br />FIRST STEP SANCTIONS CENTER '-6 <br />SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR I <br />Position Authorized <br />Criminal Justice Partnership Program <br />Nature of Work <br />An employee in this position would develop and implement a new system to intensely <br />monitor court ordered intermediate sanction offenders with the goal of reducing <br />recividism and probation revocations through emphasis on substance abuse treatment <br />and education. <br />An employee in this position must have the ability to work effectively with offenders, <br />probation officers, courts and mental health substance abuse treatment programs. <br />An employee in this position must have previous experience in substance abuse <br />treatment, community-based punishment programs, law enforcement and/or <br />corrections. <br />Ezamples of Work <br />Develop reporting, tracking, monitoring and other data gathering system. <br />Arrange referral and follow-up guidelines within the criminal justice system. <br />Maintain a resource list of treatment facilities and other human service resources. <br />Ability to document case notes in a thorough and timely manner. <br />Develop and foster working relationships with criminal justice system (probation and <br />courts) and treatment programs. <br />Screen eligible candidates, conduct initial intake and orientation and coordinate with <br />the Program Coordinator recommended treatment goals. <br />Ability to renegotiate alternative plan for effective outcome for those clients that are <br />not progressing with their treatment goals. <br />Conduct urine drug screens. <br />Provide intensive supervision of daily activities of participants, maintain records on all <br />participants and compile reports required by the Department of Corrections and the <br />Criminal Justice Partnership Program. <br />
