<br />NOR'PH CAROLaTA <br />ORANGE COL~ITY <br />WHERE'~AS the ever ~nr-,rF+aYs~g amounts of roadside litter and solid waste is <br />continually an eoanomic burden to the people of North Carolina, and <br />WHEREAS beer and soft drink non-returnable containers contribute greatly to . <br />roadside latter and solid Waste, and <br />'6u?~REAS discarded soft drink bottles, cans, and puJ1 tabs are hazardous to <br />people, farm animals, and Wildlife, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the ORANGE COU~YI'Y BOARD OF' CC1~ffSSIONERS: <br />Section x <br />THAT the North Carolina General Assembly be urged to pass legislation in <br />1977 to z'equi,re manufactures and distributors of soft drinks and beer to rha*~e a <br />minimal ~ xefundable deposit ~ all such bevexage COni'?~*+~t's SOld In NQI~1G~CO17118, <br />and to cease from using detachable pull tabs. <br />section IT <br />THAT a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the North Carolina Association <br />of County Ca~anissaoners at their annual meeting in A,M+,~t, 1976, and that said <br />Association be urged to oancvr in and support this Resolution. <br />Ccnmissioner Norm Gustaveson made the motion that the above Resolution be <br />adopted.
