The NRC's administrative hearing
board has ordered that a pre-hearing conference be convened to determine if Orange County meets
the criteria (primarily related to legal standing and legitimacy of technical contentions) that are
required to qualify it to initiate an intervention. If the administrative hearing board determines that
the County has met the standing and contention criteria, it will set a date and location for public
hearings. The pre-hearing conference has been tentatively scheduled for two days during the week
of May 10, 1999. Orange County has petitioned the NRC to hold the pre-hearing conference as a
noticed public meeting ~in Orange County.
Public Information Forum
At 7:00 PM on April 7`~, 1999, in the Council Chambers at the Chapel Hill Town Hall, Orange..
County will be hosting a public forum to inform the public about Gordon,Thompson's findings and
report relative to Shearon Harris fuel storage expansion. safety issues, concerns and alternatives.
