Goal 2. Provide Quality K -12 Education <br />Objectives: <br />• Create challenging learning environments <br />• Ensure integration of technology; develop a long -range technology plan <br />• Meet each child's individual needs <br />- Keep schools and classrooms small enough so that each student is known, observed, <br />and encouraged in his /her intellectual development <br />- Develop resources to meet the needs of students who struggle with difficult home <br />circumstances or mental health issues which impede their chance of success <br />- Foster access to multilingual education <br />- Increase parent /community investment in each student's education; Enhance <br />communication between parents, teachers and school administrators; Foster active <br />community-based programs to keep parents connected with their children's <br />educational experiences <br />- Improve special needs services: Foster opportunities to have "moderate" inclusion <br />practice within the districts; Add or expand transition services and coordination for <br />high schools; Add additional resources for Exceptional Education Support Services <br />and early intervention services; Add classrooms for students with autism at middle <br />and high school levels (Orange County Schools); Develop training program for <br />staff and resources to hire staff to serve as Inclusion Facilitators; Evaluate concerns <br />of special needs educators to see if factors that create professional stress can be <br />reduced <br />• Put equal emphasis on preparing those students who will go directly into the workplace <br />following high school by supplementing the traditional curriculum with skill development <br />opportunities available in apprenticeships and on-the-job-training <br />• Increase mentor /tutor programs at the high school level (including business, university, <br />and peers) <br />• Seek to limit the number of tests and /or surveys that have become so burdensome and <br />time- consuming; petition the legislature to reactivate alternative assessment proposals <br />• Open and maintain lines of communication and support between regular public school and <br />charter school leaderships <br />
