Create a Strong Sense of Community Crossing Cultural, Economic, Racial, Generational, <br />Geographical and Educational Barriers <br />Objectives: <br />• Fully include all people within the community, including minorities, seniors, and people <br />with disabilities; foster multicultural involvement <br />• Comply fully with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) <br />• Improve relationships between the University and Orange County residents <br />Goal 2. Support and Foster a Vibrant Community Life <br />Objectives: <br />• Locate and empower an agency or individual to lead the way to better collaboration and <br />communication among artists, the community, and community leaders <br />• Increase funding for the arts /find public - private partnership to fund arts <br />• Complete the Orange County Arts Commission data base <br />• Conserve significant historic and archeological sites and landscapes created by the <br />different Orange County ethnic, national, and cultural groups, and by industrial and other <br />activities important to the history of the county <br />• Increase developer and citizen awareness of significant historic resources and the need to <br />protect them <br />• Improve parks and recreation facilities by 1) creating more parks adjacent to schools, in <br />high density areas, and along New Hope Creek, 2) developing bikeways, 3) expanding <br />access to existing school facilities, and 4) Increasing incentives for landowners to donate <br />small plots for neighborhood benches, playgrounds <br />• Improve parks and recreation services by providing more outdoor education services <br />• Celebrate Orange County's Uniqueness <br />Basic Human Needs, Services and Issues <br />Goal 1. Provide Healthy, Quality Child Care for all Children <br />Objectives: <br />• Ensure provision of available, accessible, quality child care for all families who require it <br />• Provide level of government funding for child care similar to that for public schools <br />• Ensure provision of adequate salaries for child care workers <br />• Ensure provision of adequate supervision for all young children such as after school care, <br />tutors, summer programs, cultural, and social experiences <br />• Provide health care coverage for new and expectant parents <br />• Promote responsible parenthood by expanding proy en approaches (provide solid <br />information and support to parents, as well as more intensive assistance when needed) <br />• Safeguard children in early care and education programs from harm and promote their <br />learning and development; eliminate unsafe, substandard day care <br />• Enable communities to have the flexibility and the resources (funding) they need to <br />mobilize on behalf of young children and their families <br />
