From: Ed Kerwin <ekerwin~owasa.org>
To: 'cbenedict@co.orange.nc.us' <cbenedict~co.orange.n...
Date: 4/6/99 7:58am
3ubj®ct: FW: April 14 Joint Public Hearing
-----Original Message-----
From: Ed Kerwin Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 1999 7:54 AM
To: John M. Link (E-mail); Craig Benedict (E-mail)
Cc: Ed Holland; Imtiaz Ahmad; John Greene; Thomas (Tommy) Esqueda
(E-mail)
Subject: April 14 Joint Public Hearing
John, Craig,
Thank you for taking the necessary actions to defer the American
Stone/OWASA stone quarry item until the next joint meeting. A letter from
American Stone making this request is on the way. A follow-up letter will
also be sent by our Chairman, Dan VanderMeer. As we discussed, the decision
to request the delay was made last Thursday night. at a work session of the
OWASA $oard of Directors.
The OWASA Board of Directors remains strong in its belief that using the stone
quarry is a very desirable water storage and supply option. The request for
delay is based on OWASA's desire to have the most up-to-date information
possible regarding future population and water demand projections for our
service area and to more accurately forecast - "how the expanded stone quarry
reservoir fits into OWASA's long-range water supply plan?" As you know, our
Comprehensive Master Plan project is well underway and we are currently
reviewing and evaluating the necessary information which will allow us to
thoroughly answer this fundamental question. This work should be done well
before the next-joint public hearing this fall.
Craig, thanks again for touring the quarry operation and addressing our
Board last Thursday - it was very helpful.
Ed K.
